We set out to make a positive and very professional impact at Nuremberg, to show we have the capability to support new export customers. Talking Heads’ empathy with our business and the speed and accuracy in production greatly assisted us in getting across our brand and company values to new leads.

Many of our new customers specifically commented on the quality of our marketing, including the translations.
— Managing Director, Burgess Group

Talking Heads has provided Burgess Pet Care with multilingual services for over 10 years, from the very beginning of their international endeavours.

The Requirement

Pets are so very dear to us and each market has its own special relationship with its animals.  Also, one of Burgess Pet Care's specialist areas is small animal food, therefore communicating scientific digestive terminology and feeding information combined with heartfelt copy requires a sophisticated approach to translation.

The Solution

Firstly, we had to communicate to Burgess Pet Care that we love our pets too! A comprehensive proposal, not only covering our quality and production processes, but also allowing Burgess to learn about our relationship with our pets, was well received. Now nearly 10 years into our relationship, Talking Heads offers a fully immersive account solution, providing Burgess Pet Care with confidence in quality, efficiency and pricing.

Understanding our client and copy content is key to delivering effective translations. Every Account Manager and Project Manager conducts research into the sector, company and products, ensuring their complete understanding of the content they are managing.

Working from our in-house pool of over 11,000 worldwide linguists, internal recruitment is carried out to ensure the best linguists are chosen, based on mother-tongue language, sector expertise and experience in translating and copywriting for the sector, product and type of content. A selection of linguists is then shortlisted and trained / inducted to the account brand (incl. tone of voice) and project/s.

Process / Quality

At Burgess Pet Care's request, our ‘legislative’ process is employed; review, pre-processing, regulation term matching, translation, review, proofreading, review, spot-checking, formatting, post-processing, delivery and feedback. Our 'legislative' process includes referencing essential market regulations, to ensure legal compliance.

Files are sent to us either in MS Word, MS Excel or Adobe InDesign format. For any of the formats, our ‘target’ language files must mirror the ‘source’ language files as much as possible, allowing for cultural localisation. This includes layout, imagery, indexing, tables of content, font choice and technical implementation (incl. for script languages such as Arabic). Print-ready files are returned.

TM Management

Having worked with Burgess Pet Care for many years, the TM (Translation Memory) we hold for them is comprehensive. For each product which requires translation, we can achieve the highest level of consistency and quality due to this referencing. Discounts are also made possible as many parts of standard text are kept on record. This TM also becomes part of any new linguist’s brand training / style guide. When a revised document is sent to us for the amendments to be translated, we load it into our TM and make changes to the revised sections only, ensuring the most cost effective and efficient result.

Like any business, our customer Burgess Pet Care has strict budgets. After discussion about their requirements at the beginning of their account setup, our client always knows where they stand, and can often work out an approximate cost before they even send the work to us. They find this extremely helpful when they are at the pricing stage of their product development.

All translations are produced within Burgess Pet Care's schedule, fitting into the design, copywriting, print and delivery of packaging and POS collateral to market.
